Obituary of Sister Cecelia Josephine Martz

MARTZ, SISTER CECELIA J. (SISTER MARY ALEXINA)- The death of Sister Cecelia Josephine Martz (Sister Mary Alexina) of the Ruth Ross Residence, Saint John, occurred on Sunday, February 20, 2005 at her residence. Sister Martz was born in Holdfast, Saskatchewan, a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Fuchs) Martz. Sister Cecelia entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 1, 1928. She served in various ministries across Canada; at Holy Family Hospital and St. Patrick's Orphanage, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and Rosary Hall, Regina, Saskatchewan. In Alberta, Sister served at St. Joseph's Hospital, Radway and in Wetaskiwin. While residing in British Columbia, Sister Cecelia ministered at various places which include, Our Lady of Mercy Home and St. Vincent's Hospital, Vancouver. She also served as a Parish Worker in Hope, BC. Sister Cecelia moved to New Brunswick in the early 1970's. Since then she volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital in Saint John and participated in various ministries at the Cathedral Parish. She is survived by one brother, William D. Martz (Florence) of Maple Ridge, BC, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Kay Martz, Louise Martz and Loretta Brock and brothers, Adam and Henry Martz. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, Cliff Street, Saint John, with visiting on Monday 7-9 PM and Tuesday 2-4 PM. Vigil Service will be held at St. Vincent's Convent on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Waterloo Street, Saint John, on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Remembrances to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Romero House Soup Kitchen, Canadian Bible Society or New Dawn Inc. would be appreciated.
