Obituary of M. Barbara Smitheram

We are saddened to announce the passing of Mary Barbara Smitheram, wife of the late Ronald Smitheram, which occurred peacefully on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, surrounded by her family at home, after a brief illness. Born on November 21, 1942 in Toronto, ON, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (McGillicuddy) Abray. Barb received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Western Ontario in 1965, she was a nurse for several years at Toronto Western Hospital until her retirement. Barb was a member of the Registered Nurses of Ontario, she enjoyed traveling, knitting, gardening and baking. Survived by her loving daughter; Amanda (Tim Maxwell) of Quispamsis, and sister Jane Abray of Coboconk, ON, and beloved cat, Baxter. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Linda O'Donnell, Lori Beers, Judy Williamson, the Staff of Assessments Plus, and Dr. Ginette Griffin, whose help and care allowed Barb to fulfill her wishes to stay at home. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will be held at Kennebecasis Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, December 5, 2016 at11 AM. Interment to take place at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bobby's Hospice or to the SPCA.
