Obituary of Murray Vernon Hamilton

With heavy hearts, the daughters of Murray Vernon Hamilton announce his passing, which occurred on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Dad was surrounded by his family as he went to be with his Lord and Saviour. Born on June 30, 1925 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Frederick and Mabel (Lemon) Hamilton. Murray was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Murray was a member of Portland United Church and worked for the Canadian National Railway until his retirement in 1985. Dad is survived by his daughters, Beth Curtis (Glenn) of the Kingston Peninsula; Susan Nickerson of Quispamsis and Gail Hamilton of Saint John; four grandchildren, Samantha Higgins, Jason Nickerson (Melissa Adams), Angela Campbell (Joe Crouse) and Shannon Shaw (Bret Sanford); 10 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, June E. (Tufts) Hamilton; daughter, Valerie E. Hamilton; great-grandson, Tristan Higgins; sisters, Dorothy, Muriel, Elinor, Lois and Carol. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances made to Portland United Church, SJRH Palliative Care Unit or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
