Obituary of Herbert James Long

It is with great sadness that the family of Herbert James Long, beloved husband of the late Kathleen P. (McCaughan) Long announces his passing, which occurred on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on April 30, 1925 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Herbert J. and Bessie H. (Lee) Long. Herb retired from the Canadian Pacific Railway and was a proud veteran of WWII. He was also a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #62. Herb is survived by his son, James (Deborah); daughters, Brenda Bowron (Ted) and Janet Beyea (Ken); grandchildren, Russell (Michelle), Edward (Kate), Jennifer (Jamie), Diane, Shawn, Lisa (Ian) and Steven; great-grandsons, Gavin and Liam; sister, Marion Jean VanWart; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his brother, Jack and sister, Inez Beck. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM with a Legion Tribute being held at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #62 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
