Obituary of Shirley Rose Whitenect

The death of Shirley Whitenect, beloved wife of 63 years to the late Stanley "Junior" Whitenect occurred peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Kings Way Care Centre, Quispamsis. Born on June 13, 1936 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late James "Crandal" McLaughlin and Pearl Cook. During her working career, Shirley was employed in office administration with various companies throughout the city. She always enjoyed the outdoors and surrounding herself in the beauty of nature. Shirley loved fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, four wheeling and trailering with family and friends. She always held the times spent with those she loved close to her heart. Shirley especially treasured the times spent with her precious grandchildren who will always remember her as kind and loving. She also enjoyed genealogy, dancing and bowling. Shirley is survived by her children, Katherine Hanson (Fred) of Wirral, Cindy Dempster (Harry) of Willow Grove and Howard Whitenect (Sandra) of Saint John; daughter-in-law, Wendy Whitenect of Saint John; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; uncle, Brud; aunts, Joan and Audrey; friends, Barb and Louise; as well as several cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Shirley was also predeceased by her sons, James "Sonny", David and Stanley. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
