Obituary of John Francis Abbott

The death of Owen Abbott of Saint John, beloved husband of 28 years to L. Genevieve "Ginny" Abbott (Corcoran) occurred on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on July 10, 1933 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Mills) Abbott. Prior to his retirement, Owen was employed as a heavy equipment operator who had worked in Hamilton, Ontario and Saint John. He was proud of his 11 years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy and was a 47 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Owen loved to curl and for 15 years enjoyed curling at both the Thistle-St. Andrew’s Curling Club and Carleton Curling Club. He also enjoyed his time acting with the Saint John Theatre Company. Owen loved fiddle music and at the age of 60 he learned to play; an accomplishment he was extremely proud of. He will be sadly missed. In addition to his wife, Ginny, Owen is also survived by his children, Dan Abbott, Susan Tesluk, Sharon Babineau (Arunas Antanaitis), Angela Wasilik and Kevin Abbott all of Ontario; step-sons, Shawn McLaughlan (Wanda) and Patrick McLaughlan (Sarah Justason) all of Oromocto; brother, Allen Abbott (Gerry) of Chance Harbour; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; as well as sisters-in-law, Corinne Corcoran of Saint John and Sharon Corcoran (Orland Dickson) of Truro. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his granddaughter, Maddie Babineau and brother-in-law, Randy Corcoran. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM with a Legion Tribute being held at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, AA, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue.
