Obituary of Rita Swift

The death of Rita Swift of the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre, Hampton and formerly of Saint John, beloved wife of the late Roy Swift occurred on Friday, December 4, 2015 at her residence. Born on June 23, 1931 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Edna (Pierce) Steele. Rita will be lovingly remembered by her children, Robert Lanigan (Laurie), Dianne Jones (Michael), Michael Lanigan (Jennette), Brenda Collings (James), Karen Henderson, Rita Cousins and John Lanigan (Kelly); brothers, Leslie Steele, Arthur Steele, Brian Naves and Mike Mills; sisters, Lynn Kaye, Donna Ward and Susan Naves; 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and second husband, she was also predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Robert Lanigan; as well as several siblings. Rita’s family would like to thank the entire staff of the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre for the thoughtful care that was always provided to her. Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will take place at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Monday, December 7, 2015 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue.
