Obituary of Phoebe H. Hurley

The death of Sister Phoebe H. Hurley (Sr. Anna Miriam) of St. Vincent's Convent occurred unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, October 25, 2004. Sister Hurley was born in Barnaby River, a daughter of the late Daniel and Clara (Maher) Hurley. Sister entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on March 25, 1935. Sr. Phoebe served in the care of children and the elderly and also in housekeeping and cooking in various areas of Canada including Saint John, Prince Albert, Sk., Winnipeg, and Holdfast, Sk. Sister was parish visitor in St. Anthony's, Lloydminister, Ab. from 1981-1988. She was a member of the Pastoral Care Team at St. Vincent's Hospital, Vancouver from 1988-1995. Sister had resided at St. Vincent's Convent since 1995. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Martin and John Hurley. She is survived by six brothers, James of Haliburton, Ont., Joseph of Etobicoke, Ont., Anthony of Toronto, Daniel of Fredericton, Peter of Miramichi (Chatham), and Raymond of Gloucester, Ont.; four sisters, Sister Mary Hurley, S.C.I.C. Saint John, Miss Clarissa Hurley of Saint John. Mrs. Alice Billington of Toronto, and Mrs. Stella Renneberg of Kamloops, B.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Wednesday from 7 to 9 and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent's Chapel on Friday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Prayer Vigil will be held on Thursday evening at seven o'clock.
