Obituary of Helen Margaret ONeil

<p>The death of Sr. Helen Margaret O&rsquo;Neil (Sister M. Rosalie) of Saint John, NB, occurred on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Ruth Ross Residence. Born in Saint John she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Rita (O&rsquo;Brien) O&rsquo;Neil. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on February 2, 1939. Sister received her NB Teacher&rsquo;s License, her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from UNB while she was teaching at St. Peter&rsquo;s, St. Joseph&rsquo;s and St. Vincent&rsquo;s High School. In 1968 as Principal of Holy Trinity School she obtained her Master of Education from UNB and her Principal&rsquo;s certificate from the University of Alberta in 1972. From 1973-1986, Sister was a Principal at St. Patrick&rsquo;s School. During the summer of 1974 she participated in the Canadian Teachers&rsquo; Federation and taught mathematics in the Fiji Islands. After teaching and administration for 43 years she retired, but was elected as a school Trustee for Districts 8 and 20 and served three terms. In 1995 she conquered computer skills and was the purchasing agent at Rocmaura and later a part-time receptionist. Sister also helped set up and was librarian at Villa Madonna Retreat House. Sister Helen was also a gifted artist in painting, lettering and designed signs, etc, for different social justice issues in the greater Saint John Community. Sister resided at St. Vincent Residence on Burpee Avenue in Saint John until January 2014 when she moved to Ruth Ross Residence. She is survived by several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by one sister, Sr. Dorothy O&rsquo;Neil; four brothers, Roy O&rsquo;Neil, Gerard O&rsquo;Neil, Norman O&rsquo;Neil and James O&rsquo;Neil. Resting at Ruth Ross Residence on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Prayer Vigil will be held on Sunday at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 3, 2014 in Carmel Chapel, Ruth Ross Residence at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph&rsquo;s Cemetery.
