Obituary of Sister Agnes Quirk

The death of Sister Agnes Quirk (Sr. Marietta) occurred at Ruth Ross Residence on Sunday, August 29, 2004. Sister was born in Fortune Harbour, Notre Dame Bay, Nfld., a daughter of the late John and Mary Josephine (Glavine) Quirk. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 1930. Sister Quirk taught in Maliseet, Devon Indian School, Woodstock Indian School, Assumption Scholl, Saint John, and St. Patrick's School, Digby, N.S. Following her retirement from teaching, Sister Agnes served at the Catechetical Centre, Saint John West. In 1969 she moved to Edmonton where she served as Pastoral Assistant at St. Alphonsus Church. Sister Quirk returned to Saint John in 1990 and resided at St. Vincent's Convent where she continued to volunteer in various ministries. In 1999 Sister moved to Ruth Ross Residence. She was pre-deceased by four brothers, Patrick Anthony, Joseph, Patrick, and William Quirk; and five sisters, Mary Ann Griffiths, Nancy Griffiths, Rita Mooney, Lillian Byrne, and Sarah Bryne. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Vincent's Chapel on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Solemn Vespers will be held on Monday evening at seven o'clock.
