Obituary of Doris Martin

<p>It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Doris Marie Martin which occurred on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.&nbsp; Born in Saint John on July 11, 1920, Doris was the daughter of John and Jennie (Harkins) Calvin.</p> <p>She graduated from Saint John High School and the Saint John School of Nursing and worked for many years in local hospitals and retired from the Ridgewood Veteran&rsquo;s Wing. Doris was always at the bedside, in full uniform, of any family member who was in the hospital.</p> <p>In her younger days, Doris was a wonderful knitter, an avid reader and a great lover of the woods. Later in life, despite being deaf, she looked forward to all family functions and was always ready for a shopping trip to the US. She kept in touch with faraway family members by email and Facebook. Doris was especially proud to have been the matriarch at the Calvin family reunion last summer.</p> <p>Doris was predeceased by her husband Ronald and her son Ronald as well as her sister, Audrey and her brothers, Everett, Laurence, and John.</p> <p>Doris will be sadly missed by her children, Jane Palmer (Patrick) of Rothesay, Basil of B.C. and Joanne (Sherry Gibbons) of Loch Lomond; grandchildren: Mark Palmer (Karen), Erin Staal (Kent) and Jessica Phillips (Jeff); great grandchildren, Reed and Julia Peters, Sam, Laura and Kate Palmer, Abigail Staal, Aiden and Colin Phillips as well as her sister-in-law, Marjorie Calvin and several nieces and nephews.</p> <p>The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Pauline and Mark Cougle and their daughters, Charlotte and Emily for the wonderful kindness and care they extended to Doris when she was no longer able to live on her own.</p> <p>Resting at <strong>Fitzpatrick&rsquo;s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street</strong>, Saint John, NB (634-1965) with visiting on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 2-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 10am followed by interment in St. Joseph&rsquo;s Cemetery. &nbsp;For those who wish remembrances may be made to Romero House or any charity of the donor&rsquo;s choice.
