Obituary of Sister Bernadette Elizabeth Banning

<p>The death of Sister Bernadette Elizabeth Banning (Sister Mary Carol) occurred on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Ruth Ross Residence. Born in Ottawa, ON, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Margaret (Cooligan) Banning.</p> <p>Sister Bernadette received her education in Ottawa and had four years of office experience before she entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception in Saint John on September 8, 1957.</p> <p>After completing her novitiate, Sister worked in Medical Records at St. Joseph&rsquo;s Hospital for a year. Sister Bernadette returned to Ottawa where she became a Registered Health Records Administrator at Ottawa General Hospital. She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Records from the Notre Dame University in Nelson, BC. From 1971 to 1981, Sister was Director of Medical Records at Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert Saskatchewan. In 1982, she returned to Saint John and was Research Secretary at Conway Place and Director of Medical Records at St. Joseph&rsquo;s Hospital where she retired in 1997. Sr. Bernadette then became the Local Bursar (Payroll and Accounts) at Ruth Ross Residence since 1997 to the present time. She was presently living at St. Vincent Residence.</p> <p>Sister Bernadette is survived by her brother, Lorne Banning, three nieces, four grand-nieces; three nephews and six grand-nephews.</p> <p>She was predeceased by her brothers, Percy Banning and Malcolm Banning, and her sister, Carrole Loyer.</p> <p>Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, with a Prayer Vigil that evening at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Ruth Ross Residence, Carmel Chapel on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Interment to take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph&rsquo;s Cemetery.
