Obituary of Carmela Marie Owens

It is with great sadness that the family of C. Marie Owens announces her death which occurred on Monday April 30, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on December 2, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Gertrude (O’Leary) Owens. Marie was employed with NBTel for many years until her retirement. She was a South Ender and a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Church, the Telephone Pioneers, Rocmaura Auxiliary and the Irish Society. Survived by her sister, Sr. Valerie Owens SCIC, of Saint John, sister-in-law, Helen Owens of Halifax, NS, several nieces and nephews; Margaret Burke (Roderick) of Cape Breton, NS, Eileen Cummins (Martin) of Dartmouth, NS, Linda Ferron (Bud) of Halifax, Kathleen Fultz (the late Bill) of Halifax, Valerie Owens (Dave) of Calgary, AB, Anne Morrison of London, ON, John Allan Owens (Nancy) of Sackville, NS, Daniel Owens of Toronto (ON), Hugh Owens (Dorothy) of Halifax, John Morrison of Halifax, Patrick Morrison of Saint John, Stephen Barry (Veronica) of Saint John, and John Barry (Vicky) of Saint John. Marie is also survived by two great nieces; Norah and Colleen Barry as well as many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her sisters; Gertrude Owens, Ursula Morrison, Olive Owens, Noreen Barry (James), infant Justina Owens, brother; Allan Owens. Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John (634-1965), with visiting on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday May 4th from St. John the Baptist Church at 10:00am. Interment to take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated by the family.
