Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Hogan

HOGAN-Mary Elizabeth Hogan (1906-2010), widow of Patrick Joseph Hogan and daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Creary) McCarthy, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 22, 2010, in her 104th year. A devoted wife and mother of four children, and a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Parish, she actively contributed to the major projects and annual functions of the parish over many decades. She was an avid and accomplished bridge player who also brought her intelligence, gentle friendship, and service to the work of the Catholic Women's League, the Children's Aid Society, the Legion of Mary, and St. Vincent's Alumnae Association. She graduated from St. Vincent's High School in 1925 and studied business at Mount Carmel Academy, graduating in 1926. In 1934 she married Patrick J. Hogan, Manager of Paramount Films for the Maritime Region. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by one son, Dr. John T. Hogan of Edmonton, Ab.; three daughters, Elizabeth A. Hogan of Saint John, Constance M. (Hogan) Rankin of Burlington, Ont., and Dr. M. Patricia Hogan of Antigonish, N.S.; two nieces and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends may call at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday afternoon at 12:05. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers in memory of Elizabeth, donations may be made to the Cathedral Restoration Fund, Development and Peace, or the charity of your choice.
