Obituary of Hazel Agnes Morrison

MORRISON, HAZEL AGNES-It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Hazel A. Morrison, wife of Daniel J. Morrison, which occurred on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Hazel was born in West Saint John on October 17, 1924, a daughter of the late John and Matilda (Doyle) Joyce. She was a devoted and loving wife to Dan Morrison for 60 years. Hazel was a faithful and active parishioner of St. Josephs Catholic Church and the C.W.L. For years Hazel and Dan enjoyed skating their "reachers" at Lancaster Centennial Arena and Harbour Station. She was a member of the Senior Silver Links, the Time Stoppers Exercise Club, and the C.N.R. Retirees Association. Prior to marriage, Hazel worked for the Department of National Revenue. Hazel, after raising her five daughters, decided to return to work and was employed at the West Saint John Community Hospital and the Saint John Regional Hospital as a ward secretary. Upon her retirement in 1988 they retired to "Osocosye" at 2nd Lake Loch Lomond where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Hazel dearly loved her family and is survived by her five daughters: Lynn (Pay) Mackin of Saint John, Jane Finley (Bill Gandy) of Quispamsis, Susan (Bill) Melvin of Quispamsis, Dale (Bob) Keir of Quispamsis, and Tiena Delaney of Saint John; eight grandchildren, Melanie Mackin, Sarah Finley, Kelly and Danny Aitken, Carrie Mullett, Jill MacFarland, Kristy O'Dell, and Jaclyn Keir; three great-grandchildren, Hilary, Clare, and Johnny; two brothers, Edward Joyce of Saint John, and Jack (Becky) Joyce of Calgary; one sister, Alice (Steve) Childerhouse of Winnipeg; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her brother, James Joyce; sisters, Katherine (Stan) Hunt and Betty (Archie) McHarg; and son-in-law, Lou Delaney. Visitation will be held at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., (634-1965) on Sunday, December 27th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church, Clarendon St., on Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery at a later date.
