Obituary of Sister Agnes Janssen

Janssen- the death of Sister Agnes Janssen (Sister Mechtilde), of Ruth Ross Residence, occurred on Sunday, July 26, 2009. Sister Agnes was born in Watson, Saskatchewan a daughter of the late Gerhard and Bertha(Briski) Janssen. Agnes entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on July 16, 1932. She took care of the boys at St. Patrick's Orphanage in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. From 1944 until 1987 Sister Agnes ministered with her gift of planning and preparing meals in several places which include the following-Sacred Heart, Immaculate Heart, Our Lady of Mercy Home in Vancouver, BC. On her return to New Brunswick in 1962 she continued this ministry at St. Vincent's Convent, Cliff St., Saint John, Rosary Hall, Fredericton, Villa Madonna Retreat House, Rothesay, St. Joseph's Hospital (Coburg House) and Ruth Ross Residence, Saint John. Sr. Agnes moved to Ruth Ross Residence in 1983 and following her retirement in 1987 she volunteered at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Sr. Agnes was predeceased by three brothers, Henry, John and Gerhart (Gary) Janssen, and two sisters, Christine Janssen and Johanna Raab. Sr. Agnes is survived by a brother Bernard Janssen, and several nieces and nephews. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father. Ken Weir at St. Vincent's Convent Chapel on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Evening Prayer Vigil will be held on Monday evening at seven o'clock.
