Obituary of Sister Elaine F. Mitchell

MITCHELL-the death of Sister Elaine F. Mitchell (Sr. Joseph Frances) occurred at Ruth Ross Residence on Saturday, January 19, 2008. Sister was born in Saint John, a daughter of the late J. Joseph and Frances C. (O'Keefe) Mitchell. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on February 2, 1952. Sister Elaine was a schoolteacher and taught at Holy Trinity School in Saint John from 1955-1956. Sister then taught at St. Joseph's School from 1956-1965. Sister moved to Fredericton and taught at St. Dunstan's Elementary School. She returned to Saint John in 1968 and taught at Holy Trinity School for eight years. Sister earned her Master of Education Degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1974. She taught at St. Patrick's School from 1976-1990. She was predeceased by three brothers, Father Philip Mitchell, C.S.C., Father J. Paul Mitchell, and Father David C. Mitchell; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Coughlan and Sister Genevieve Mitchell, S.C.I.C. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Evening Vigil Service will be held on Monday evening at seven o'clock. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday morning at 12:05 PM. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
