Obituary of Margaret Emma Duffley

DUFFLEY-the death of Margaret Emma "Peggy" Duffley of Golden Grove occurred peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, December 5, 2007. Peggy was born in Preston, Lancashire, England, on June 13, 1922, a daughter of the late John James and Margaret Mary (Murray) Woodruff, and immigrated to Canada on March 19, 1926, aboard the S.S. Doric. They arrived in Halifax and left on the train for the Centreville-Four Falls area of N.B. After farming for four years they moved to Saint John where she spent the rest of her life. She graduated from St. Vincent's Girls High School in 1940. She was employed at Walsh's Drug Store and later with Paramount Films, where she worked until her marriage to Bern in 1954. Peggy, or Gram, as she was called, loved her life at "The Grove", where she spent many years gardening and building rock-walls, enjoying the sun and watching the many different birds that frequented her feeders. She was even known to chase the odd squirrel or blue jay, she best loved purple finches and chickadees. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Bernard Joseph; her infant son John George; her infant grandson, Craig Davidson;her brother, William Woodruff of Saint John; and her sister, Joan Grant of Oshawa. She is survived by her children, Patrick J. Duffley of Sillery, Quebec, Mary Ellen Davidson (Brian) of St. Martin's, Judith "Judy" Beers of Saint John, and Robert (Heather Hatt) Duffley of Rothesay; her beloved grandchildren, Stewart, Robert, Scott, and Clinton Davidson, Melody, Matthew, Lindsay, and Alex Beers, and Luke and James Duffley; her brother-in-law, Philip Duffley of Golden Grove; her sisters-in-law, Sr. Theresa Duffley,S.O.S., of Halifax, Helen Barrett of Coquitlam, B.C., and Colletta Woodruff of Rothesay; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church on Saturday morning at eleven o'clock. Entombment will take place in Fernhill Vault. Interment will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to Divine Mercy Catholic School or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
