Obituary of Lillian Bladen Beckwith

BECKWITH-Lillian Bladen Beckwith died on August 22, 2007, at Loch Lomond Villa just days before her 90th birthday. She was born in Saint John, the eldest child of the late Arthur and Gladys (McCluskey) Beckwith. She worked at the Saint John General Hospital for forty years, retiring as Supervisor of Ward Attendants in 1981. She was predeceased by her companion, Louis Stafford, in 2000; three brothers, Paul in infancy, Arthur in 1981, and John (Theresa) in 2002; one sister, Pauline Lavallee in 2000; three nephews, Wayne Jeffrey in 1972, Grant Beyea in 1997, and Bert Farnham in 1999; and one niece, Donna Farnham in 2006. She is survived by five sisters, Marjorie Garnett (the late Holly) of Fredericton, Judy Cashol (the late Greg) of Dickie Mountain, N.B., Dorothy Beyea (John) of Quispamsis, Gladys Farnham (Douglas) of Upper Golden Grove, and Lorraine Gray (Frederick) of Saint John; two brothers, Edward (Beatrice) of Hammond River, and David (Norma) of Nauwigewauk; and several nieces and nephews. Although she had no children, she was an attentive and loving aunt to her numerous nieces and nephews. For six years prior to her admission to the Villa because of failing health, she was lovingly cared for by Debbie and Dennis Kemp. Lil had a long and rewarding life which she spent in the company of her sisters and brothers and their families. No crowd was too big to feed and no person too big to tell off. She was a tough old bird with a big heart. We will miss her. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Saturday from 7 to 9 and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday morning at twelve o'clock. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Animal Rescue League or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
