Obituary of Alphonsus Sears McCarthy

McCARTHY-Alphonsus Sears McCarthy, 87 years, of Dartmouth, N.S., and formerly of Saint John, succumbed to a lengthy battle with cancer on Saturday, September 20, 2003. He was born in Boston, Mass., a son of the late James W. and Bridget (McSherry) McCarthy. He was a member of St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church. He worked for the Canadian Steamship Lines and the Port of Saint John until his retirement and move to Nova Scotia. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, George of Boston, and James Leonard of Saint John; and a sister, Rita McCarthy of Saint John. He is survived by two sisters, Louise Meighen of Montréal, and Margaret Dean of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed. The body has been cremated under the direction of Mattatall Funeral Home, Dartmouth. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church on Thursday morning at 10:30.
