Obituary of Bernard J. Duffley

DUFFLEY-the death of Bernard J. Duffley of Golden Grove occurred unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 11, 2006, the result of complications from a motor vehicle accident. Bernard was born in Golden Grove on September 4, 1923, a son of the late George and Ellen (Quinn) Duffley. Bernard retired from Air Canada in 1983 after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a long time parishioner of St. Ann's Church, where he served for many years as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and gentleman altar server. In his younger years, Bern loved to sing and took part in operettas and choirs. Bern loved the outdoors: fishing, hunting, gardening, and time spent in Flume Ridge at the family camp. He was predeceased by an infant son, John George; and an infant grandson, Craig Davidson. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Margaret 'Peggy' (Woodruff) Duffley; two sons, Patrick of Sillery, Quebec, and Robert (Heather) of Rothesay; two daughters, Mary Ellen Davidson (Brian) of St. Martin's, and Judith Beers of Saint John; one brother, Philip Duffley of Golden Grove; two sisters, Helen Barrett of Coquitlam, B.C., and Sister Theresa Duffley S.O.S. of Halifax; ten grandchildren, Stewart, Robert, Scott, and Clinton Davidson, Melody, Matthew, Lindsay, and Alex Beers; and Luke and James Duffley; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Saturday from 7 to 9 and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church on Monday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Golden Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations to Divine Mercy Catholic School or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church would be appreciated.
