Obituary of ELLEN THERESA MAXWELL

MAXWELL,ELLEN THERESA-(1905-2005) - peacefully at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Tuesday, August 16, 2005, in her 101st year, widow of Maurice Gershon Maxwell and daughter of the late John V. and Mary Ann (Bradley) O'Brien. Loving mother of Sister Mary Ann Maxwell, SCIC, of Saint John, Jean Claire Rice and her husband, Daniel, of Nepean, Ont., Thomas Maurice Maxwell and his wife, Joanne, of Summerville, N.B., and John Stephen Maxwell and his wife, Linda, of Moncton. Beloved grandmother of Jim, Tom (Denise), and Maureen Rice, Kristina (Jeffrey) Cusack and Stephen Maxwell (Bev Doyle), Jill (Jeffrey) MacDonald, Heather Graham, Martha (Scott) McWilliam, and Bridget Maxwell. Beloved great-grandmother of Daniel and Alexander Rice, Taylor Cusack, Kate and Hannah MacDonald, Ella Graham, and Grace McWilliam. Loving sister of Rev. Thomas S. O'Brien, C.S.s.R., of Saint John. Ellen will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Ellen was a lifelong resident of Saint John. She graduated from St. Vincent's High School in 1922 and studied business at Mount Carmel Academy, graduating in 1923. She worked as a secretary for the Bank of Nova Scotia for 17 years until her marriage to Maurice in 1940. During her lifetime she was an active member of St. Peter's Parish, assisting in St. Elizabeth's Society, the Legion of Mary, and the Catholic Women's League. She had also served as a active member of St. Vincent's Alumnae Association. Recently, at the time of her 100th birthday, Ellen was honored with a life-long membership in the Catholic Women's League by St. Peter's Council. She will be especially remembered for the countless mittens she knitted for the children who attended the schools where her daughter worked. Friends may call at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church on Thursday morning at eleven o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Ellen, donations may be made to Rocmaura Foundation Inc., St. Vincent's Alumnae Scholarship Fund, Romero House, or the charity of your choice.
