Obituary of Sister Mary A. Keating

The death of Sister Mary A. Keating (Sr. Mary Jean) occurred at Ruth Ross Residence on Tuesday, December 14, 2004. Sister was born in Newcastle, a daughter of the late Edward and Irene (Johnson) Keating. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on January 6, 1940. Sister taught in the Commercial Dept. of Mount Carmel Academy in Saint John for 19 years from 1941 to 1960. She also assisted in the publishing tasks of the Raphaelite Magazine. Sister Mary moved to Woodstock, N.B., where she lived in St. Gertrude's Convent before moving to St. Patrick's Convent, Digby, N.S., where she taught Catechism. In 1966 Sister returned to Saint John and served as a Secretary at the Generalate of the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception until 1990. She was pre-deceased by a brother, John A. Keating; and two sisters, Eileen T. Keating and Rose Demers. She is survived by one brother, Vincent Keating (Audrey) of Ottawa; one sister, Mrs. Dorca Broda (Al) of Delta, B.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent's Chapel on Friday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Prayer Vigil will be held on Thursday evening at seven o'clock.
