Obituary of Eleanor Downey

The death of Eleanor Downey, wife of Gordon Downey, of River Valley Drive, Grand Bay-Westfield occurred on Thursday October 28, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was gathered to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, at Lorneville, for many years. Eleanor was the daughter of the late Reeve Dean and survived by her mother Wealthy (Tucker) Dean. She was employed at the Royal Bank and Saint John News in her early years and helped her son, Wes deliver mail for the Grand Bay-Westfield Post Office in later years. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening. She will be remembered for her many cards of encouragement, throughout the years, especially to the sick and shut-in. Eleanor is survived by her husband and mother, along with one daughter Carolyn (Roy) Stevens of Grand Bay-Westfield; three sons Daniel Downey of Ottawa, ON, Wes and Mark Downey both of Grand Bay-Westfield, and two grandchildren Bethany (Justin) and Julie. She was predeceased by her father Reeve. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, NB (634-7425) with visitation on Saturday October 30, 2004 from 7-9 pm and Sunday October 31, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Bay View Chapel on Monday November 1, 2004 at 1 pm. Interment will follow the service at Lorneville Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be to the charity of the donor's choice.
