Obituary of Lois Marie Sweet

After a period of failing health, the death of Lois Sweet, wife of John "Jack" Sweet, occurred on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Carleton Kirk Lodge. Born on March 7, 1929 at Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Childs) Goldie. Lois grew up on the family farm in Gagetown, and came to Saint John to work for her grandfather in Child's Bakery, where she met the love of her life, Jack. After they were married, she stayed home to raise her growing family. As the children got older, she went to work at the Dominion Store as a cake decorator until her retirement. Lois is survived by her six children: Sharon Sweet (Phil Moore) of Hampstead, Ferne Lockhart (Gordon) of Martinon, Donna Nash (Daniel) of Hoyt, Jacquline Whittaker (Addison) of Wirral, William "Billy" Sweet of Saint John, and Lorraine Robbins (Howard) of Lubec, Maine; 13 grandchildren, Mary Harmon (Hugh), Robbie Lockhart (Sonja), Paula Lockhart (Kevin), Addison Sweet (Kara), Billy Joe Whittaker (Misty), Tanya Nash, Nathan Nash, Tishla Cruickshank (Daniel), Kellie Delaney (Aaron), Ashley Dunbar (Chris), Sheelagh Swyers (Matt), Daniel Sweet, and Stephen Hall; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters: Ruth Mahoney of Oromocto, and Patricia Johnson (Bernard) of Panama City, Florida; sisters-in-law Linda Hugh, and Lois Goldie of Saint John; aunt, Phyllis Kilpatrick of Westfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers: Louis Goldie Jr. and Joseph Goldie; infant sister Phyllis Jean Goldie; and step-grandson Jacob Robbins. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Rose de Lima Church at on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the CNIB or any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
