Obituary of George Wayne Day

Final Farewell 1946 George (Buddy) Day 2011 Buddy's family gathered at the old homestead in New Jerusalem on July 3, 2011 to share in his final farewell. Buddy's journey began in Indiantown where his love of the water led him through many MIS adventures! He attended various schools in the north end and after 2 weeks at Vocational school he decided his grade 9 education was enough for him and he joined the work force. His first job was with Coca-cola loading trucks. Then he was hired by the Saint John Tug Boat Company as a deck hand helping to guide ships into the harbour and loading pulp. After that he went to work for Kent Lines as an able seaman. He worked on the oil tankers bringing oil from different countries. Next he worked at INCO (nickel mines) in Sudbury for 5 years. He took a vacation to Newfoundland with a friend he met at INCO, when the mine went on trike, and stayed there for two years! He worked for an insulation company while there. On his return to New Brunswick he joined the Laborers' Union but went to work for the Coast Guard. He did various jobs from checking buoys along the rivers to working on an ice breaker in the Arctic, to delivering fuel, and also search and rescue. Then in 1980 he started as a labourer in the construction industry. He worked for numerous companies over the years and ended his career in 2010 working for Lorneville Mechanical at a job he truly loved. Through his love of the water he was able to experience travel to many different parts of the world but he still made Grand Bay his home where he lived the last 25 years with his wife Kathy in the house that his father built with the help of his brother David. Eventually he found a new "love" in the Army Ground where he spent many hours trying to "find his roots". This is where his father's family was from and he truly enjoyed just driving around the vast countryside looking for animals to take pictures of or just enjoying the peace and beauty of it all. That is why Buddy chose this as his final earthly resting place. Buddy is now home!! December 1, 1946 – January 27, 2011  It is with broken hearts that Buddy's family announces his passing after a determined but unsuccessful battle with pancreatic cancer. Buddy was the son of George and Geraldine (Ferris) Day. Remaining are his wife Kathy (Belyea), his sister Barbara Phillips and her children Kris and Sherri, his brother David E.
