Obituary of Ernest McDowell

McDowell, Ernest Millen … The death of Ernest M. McDowell, husband of Verna (Sullivan) McDowell of Pennfield, NB, occurred at the Fundy Nursing Home on Wednesday, February 3, 2010. Ernie was born in Pennfield a son of the late Ernest A. and Bertha G. (Hawkins) McDowell. He had been employed with the C.P.R- Via Rail for many years and retired as conductor. Ernie was instrumental in setting up the Pennfield volunteer fire department and served as the department's first chief. He was a bee keeper, an avid gardener and a blueberry farmer. Besides his wife, Ernie is survived by his two sons, Kenneth (Judith) of Miramichi, NB and Gregory (Patricia) of Traceyville, NB; one daughter, Susan (Ben) Sharpe of Burlington, ON; two brothers, Rupert of Pocologan, NB and Donald (Dorothy) of Ottawa, ON; two sisters, Ruth (Walter) Logan of Rothesay, NB and Joyce McDowell of Saint John, NB; eight grandchildren, Michael, Jeffery, Lindsay, Christopher, Kyle, Kalita, Krista and Kaitlyn; several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (506) 634-7425 with visiting on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 2-4 pm. A service of Remembrance will be held in Bay View Chapel at 4 p.m. Following the service a reception will be held at the Bay View Reception Centre. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
