Obituary of Joseph Francis McGovern

The death of Joseph McGovern, husband of Valerie (Cunningham) McGovern occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. He was born in Saint John on March 8, 1931 to the late Bernard and Florence (McCarthy) McGovern. Joseph worked in the Sales Department for Trecartin's Wholesale for many years until his retirement. In his younger years, Joseph was an avid baseball and hockey player. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Besides his loving wife of 54 years Valerie, Joseph is survived by his daughter, Jo Anne Kimball (Steven) of Dartmouth, NS; two brothers: James and Thomas (Shirley) both of Saint John and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by a brother, Bernard and two sisters, Mary Finigan and Constance McGrath. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425). At Joseph's request there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 12 noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
