Obituary of Edna Winnifred Richards

Edna Winnifred Richards of Saint John West, wife of the late Vincent John Richards, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born at Saint John on October 9, 1923, she was a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Walsh) Garey. Edna was a graduate of St. Vincent's Girls High School and Mount Carmel Academy, and worked as a loans officer at the Bank of Commerce. She was a member of St. Rose de Lima Parish, where she was a life-time member of the Catholic Women's League. Edna enjoyed her bridge club for more than 40 years, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Edna is survived by her children, Barbara Jones (Ron) of Calgary, AB, Paul Richards (Catherine) of Vancouver, BC, Patti Brennan (Mike) of Saint John, and Elizabeth (Betty) Griffith (Peter) of Saint John; grandchildren Andrew Richards (Lorna), Gordon Jones, Cathy Jones, Richard Griffith (Kim), Kelly Griffith, Katie Brennan, and Amy Brennan; a great grandson, Connor Richards; and by several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, Edna was predeceased by brothers John, Walter, Leo, and Donald Garey; and by sisters Alice and Elizabeth (Lil) Garey. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from St. Rose de Lima Church. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
