Obituary of F. Jean MacNeil

Flora "Jean" MacNeil of Grand Bay, wife of John A. "Scotty" MacNeil, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on April 15, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Katherine (Dupe) Richards. Jean was a member of St. Augustine's Church, Westfield, and was a former member of the Catholic Women's League. She enjoyed bowling at the Westfield Athletic Club. The view of the Saint John River from her front verandah brought her enormous pleasure. Jean's greatest joy was her family. In addition to her husband of 62 years, Jean is survived by her children, John MacNeil (Catherine) of Saint John, Marie Griffiths (Marc) of Fredericton, Catherine Drescher (Dan) of Coldstream, BC, Cameron MacNeil of Fredericton, George MacNeil (Lynn) of Fort McMurray, AB, and David MacNeil (Jeanine) of Westfield; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her family appreciates the tender care given by staff of 4BS as well as Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Raju. We would like to extend special thanks to Dr. James West, Jean's personal physician for his unfailing dedication. Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass, which will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM from St. Augustine's Church, Westfield. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Augustine's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Salvation Army, Jean's favourite charity, would be appreciated.
