Obituary of Clifford Merlin Guthrie

The death of Clifford M. Guthrie of Winslow Street, Saint John West, husband of Margaret Doreen (McCullough) Guthrie, occurred on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Grand Manan, he was a son of the late Roland and Elizabeth (Daley) Guthrie. Clifford was a Veteran of World War II, serving overseas with the North Shore Regiment, and later with the Merchant Navy. A former lobster and salmon fisherman, Clifford was also employed as a longshoreman with the Port of Saint John, and as a burner repairman with Irving Oil. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bayview Branch #22. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Clifford is survived by his children, Donnie of Saint John, Carl (Cathy) of Saint John, Nancy Watson (Peter) of Grand Bay-Westfield, Mike of Grand Bay-Westfield, Tommy of Saint John, and Connie Dunham (John) of Saint John; two brothers, Leaman Guthrie of Saint John, and Lorne Guthrie of Saint John; two sisters-in-law, Marie Guthrie and Hazel Guthrie, both of Saint John; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a special friend of the family, Linda Fox; and several nieces and nephews. Clifford was predeceased by brothers Glendon, Bill, and Winston; and by sisters Lois Beshara and Louise Bannan. Although there will be no visitation time, relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service which will be held on Monday, January 14, 2008 at 2:00 PM from Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425).
