Obituary of Walter Joseph Kierstead

The death of Walter Joseph Kierstead, of the Gault Road, husband of the late Gladys Mae (Northrup) Kierstead, occurred on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John he was a son of the late George and Mary Creary Kierstead. Walter had served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was employed as a printer for Barnes Hopkins, McMillan Press and Keystone Printing, owner of Art Craft Press, and Time Keeper at the Saint John Port. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 2. Walter was inducted to the NB Softball Hall of Fame on June 21, 1997 as a member of the Saint John Main Brace Naval Veteran's Club, enjoyed being at his camp and listening to music. He is survived by one son Brian Kierstead and his wife Lisa of Saint John; one, brother Harold (Doris) of Saint John; two grandchildren: Michael, Hilary and Bronwyn Kierstead. Besides his wife and parents he was predeceased by two brothers: Jack and Fred, three sisters: Ethel, Genevieve and Mary. He will be sadly missed by his family and many close friends. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7425) with visiting on Sunday, May 29, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 30, 2005 from St. Rose of Lima at 12 Noon. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. There will be a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute service on Sunday at 7:45 pm.
