Obituary of Russell Haynes

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ernest Russell Haynes, husband of Linda Haynes, announce his passing which occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home. Russell was born on January 27, 1941, in Saint John, NB, and was the son of the late M. Louise (Jones) (Haynes) Ewart and H. Russell Haynes.

Russell lived and worked in the Saint John area all of his life. He was a storyteller who could make people laugh and keep them guessing, as no one ever knew what Russell would say or do next. Russell graduated from Saint John High School and went on to achieve his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in History, as well as his Bachelor of Education at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. He had a passion for education which is shown in his career as a school teacher for 30 years, as a little league baseball coach and as a Scout Leader. Russell adored Linda, who was the love of his life, and he took great pride in his children, Sheri-Lynn and Craig. He also loved the many cats who were an important part of the family through the years. Russell would often be found enjoying his stamp collection, his gardens and photography in the great outdoors. He especially enjoyed camping trips with his family and with the Scouts. Among the highlights of his decades in Scouting was his trip to the World Jamboree held in the United Kingdom in 1957.

Russell is survived by his wife, Linda of Quispamsis; his daughter, Sheri-Lynn Haynes of Quispamsis; his son, Craig Haynes (Jeannine Ritchot) of Ottawa; as well as friends in his church family and from his many years in Scouting. He was predeceased by his parents.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd, Quispamsis (849-2119). There will be visitation on Saturday, July 25, 2020, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, with a Funeral Service to follow from Grace Presbyterian Church, 101 Coburg St., Saint John, beginning at 12:00 PM.  Staff will be available at the main entrance of the church to greet and assist with Covid-19 protocols; physical distancing will be in place.
