They say it takes a village to raise a child, and my sister and I understand exactly what this means. When school ended each year, we could barely contain our excitement to make our way to New Brunswick to be with our village, to spend time with many uncles, aunts, cousins, and in particular many weeks with Willis and Doreen.
Aunt Doreen, you gave us structure and discipline when we needed, and love, compassion, and nurturing when you felt that was more important. You taught me about patience, about opening your door when people were in need, and about how no job was too small and how hard work every day keeps the village moving forward. I will miss you very much, you have left me with wonderful memories that will stay with me forever. I am very grateful for everything you have done, thank-you for opening your door when we were in need.
To my cousins Harvey and Karen and to my Uncle Wil, I am so sorry. To me your mom and life partner was a saint, I loved her very much.
