Obituary of Jane Ellen Blenis

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jane Ellen Blenis announce her peaceful passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 7th, surrounded by family and friends. Jane fought a courageous fight against melanoma, but it ultimately claimed her life, far too soon.

Born on August 8th 1956 in Saint John, Jane is predeceased by her loving mother Clare Duffley, and father Edmund Duffley, and several beloved aunts and uncles.

Jane married the love of her life, John Blenis, on June 26 1982, and they were blessed with their favorite older daughter Sarah (Phil), and favorite youngest daughter Jessica.

Jane is also survived by her wonderful brother and sister, Louis and Mary Eileen Duffley, grandsons John and Sam, sister-in-law Linda Blenis, brother-in-law Peter Blenis (Leonie), aunts, uncle, and many cousins.

Jane was the 5th female graduate of the Maritime Ranger School, and graduated in 1978 at the top of her class. Jane had a true love of nature, and met many wonderful people (and many flavors of ice cream) through her work in forestry. Jane loved working in her garden in Upham, and met many friends through her love of gardening. Jane also loved animals, particularly horses, dogs and cats, and met many wonderful people through her four-legged friends.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).Keeping with Jane’s wishes, there will be no wake or funeral service; instead, a celebration of Jane’s life will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to thank all the extra mural nurses, doctors (especially Dr. Love and Dr. Che), and all the staff of the Regional Hospital for their compassionate care.

“Even when you can no longer see the bird in the woods, if you listen carefully, you will always hear its song.”
