Obituary of Walter Kurt Kappelmann

Walter Kurt Kappelmann, 49 of Black Mountain, North Carolina, passed away September 25, 2013. Mr. Kappelmann was born May 5, 1964 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Walter graduated from Saint John Vocational School and NBCC Moncton with a Civil Engineering Technology - Architectural degree. He entered the workforce with JD Irving in Saint John, and then moved to the United States 17 years ago to New Hampshire. He then graduated from Homestead Woodworking School in New Market, NH. For 7 years he worked for Softdesk, which later became Autodesk, where he was a Courseware Developer/Writing Manager. He was employed with Freud Tools (division of Bosch) for the last 10 years, as the Woodworking Specialist/Director of Product Training. Walter was a writer, publisher, technologist, wood craftsman, story teller and photographer. He loved life, collecting antiques, and the United States. His laughter and sense of humor could fill any room. Walter is preceded in death by his father, Kurt Paul Kappelmann. He is survived by his mother Mary Kappelmann; sister, Ruth Kappelmann Saulnier (Terry); niece, Elaine Saulnier all of Saint John, New Brunswick; nephew Paul Saulnier of Calgary, Alberta; Aunt, Leni Pilkan (born on June 27, 1923 died on October 16, 2013); numerous cousins all of Germany; and dearest friend and confidant, Kathy Sminchak of Cleveland, Ohio. Family will receive friends as a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). In lieu of flowers remembrances to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
