Obituary of Robert Samuel Mason

Robert Samuel Mason of Quispamsis, husband of the late Marion Rachel (Cunningham) Mason, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Kings Way Care Centre. Born in Saint John on February 27, 1918, he was a son of the late Alexander and Eva Dora (Swim) Mason. Robert was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the 5th Field Ambulance, as well as other regiments throughout the European Theatre of War. Upon his return to Canada, Robert was employed with CP/CN Marine for forty one years, retiring in 1978. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. Robert is survived by a son, Robert Mason (Irene) of Sussex; two daughters, Ruth West (Roger) of Shelburne, NS, and Elizabeth Anne Myles (Mike) of Oak Bank, MB; a special brother-in-law, Charlie Warner; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of a family of fifteen, Robert was predeceased by brothers Edward, William, Fred, Harry, David, and Sam; sisters Eva Warner, Agnes Chatterton, Eleanor Secord, Dorothy Spragg, Elizabeth Speight, and Margaret Nodwell; as well as two infant siblings. In keeping with Robert’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be observed at this time. For those who wish remembrances to Kings Way Care Centre or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
