Gerard Ellsworth

Obituary of Gerard Francis Ellsworth

It is with great sadness the family of Gerry Ellsworth, husband of Wilma M. (Snare) Currie, announce his passing which occurred on September 14, 2013 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born in Saint John, NB, on October 28, 1933 he was a son of the late George W. Ellsworth and Hilma H. White. Gerry was a passionate husband, father and friend to many who had known him. One of his proudest personal achievements was being an active member of AA for over 33 years. He lived his life as everyday would be his last. His personal motto was that of the AA organization (Thank you Bill W). One hour at a time ….One day at a time….One step at a time We all have a "Gerry Ellsworth story" and they involve his strength, kindness and compassion. For example the story of Gerry carrying his friend on his back to the Duck Blind so he could hunt (His friend had MS and couldn’t walk). Drive and determination: Working two jobs (construction during the day and taxi at night) to help raise 8 children Physical Strength: this tough old fella was cutting and splitting 6 cords of wood at 79 years of age. Humour: Gerry would use a little Shock and Awe to draw a smile from whomever he met. Loving: he would give a hug when we got together and a "I Love you" when we said so long, he hated saying "Goodbye"….. it had to be "see you later" Supportive: he never missed a birthday, graduation, ball game or race. He was our number one fan The family would like to thank the caring hands of the Extra-Mural Hospital and the Staff of Bobby’s Hospice. In addition to Wilma his wife, Gerry is survived by his eight children, Judith Phillips (Stephen) of Halifax, Catherine Smith (Daryl) of Calgary, David Currie (Terri) of Vancouver, Heather Middleton of Saint John, James Currie (Patti) of Moncton, John Currie (Odette) of Quispamsis, Krista Currie of Toronto, and Rorri Currie (Krista) of Rothesay; 20 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Gerry was predeceased by his parents and his two brothers Francis and Joseph. Arrangements under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday Sept 19, 2013 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm The celebration of life will be in the hunting theme and will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Friday September 20, 2013, at 12 noon with a reception to follow.
