Joan Robinson

Obituary of Joan Audrey Robinson

After a period of declining health, our loving and devoted mother, Joan Audrey (Raycroft) Robinson, passed away peacefully at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing in Saint John, on September 10, 2013. Born in Saint John on March 19, 1919, the family lived in Glen Falls, although she was a frequent visitor at her grandmother’s house uptown, next to the old fire station on Charlotte Street. Saint John was always ‘home’ to her, even after the family relocated to Toronto in the early 1930s. During the War, she was stationed at Goose Bay, and met her future husband, Alan, stationed at Gander. Most of her life was spent in Granby, Quebec, Alan’s hometown, where she was active in the United Church, the Sunday School, and the Brownie and Girl Guide movements. Eventually, advancing in years, Joan moved into a seniors’ residence in Granby. As time went by, her increasing needs dictated a move to another facility, and she was fortunate to be able to move into Ridgewood- ‘home’ at last, and near to three generations of her immediate family. The family will be forever grateful for her too brief but happy time at Ridgewood, with its wonderful staff, excellent care, and loving atmosphere. Joan was predeceased by her husband Alan, her parents Minnie (Tiplady) and Charles Raycroft, her sister Molly, and is survived by daughter Susan, son John (Barb), grandchildren Seamus (Karen), Brendan, James (Lisa), Charles (Heather), Phillip (Alexandra), and Anne (Dave), as well as great-granddaughters Tara, Stella, June, Violet, and Ivy. In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services at this time. She will be interred with her husband in Granby, QC at a later date. Remembrances to the Ridgewood Veteran Wing Comfort Fund or Granby United Church would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.brenansfh.com.
