Obituary of Dorothy Gertrude Fullerton

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Dorothy Gertrude Fullerton of Saint John, wife of the late Donald Fullerton, which occurred on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on January 15, 1923, she was a daughter of the late William and Lillian (Blizzard) Brown. Dorothy graduated from Saint John Vocational School in 1940. She retired from Prudential Insurance as office manager in 1977. Blessed with a beautiful alto voice, Dorothy expressed her faith and found her fulfillment through music. She sang in many local and church choirs and was often sought as a soloist. She also devoted much time to assisting in the development of young singers and musicians. She volunteered with the Saint John Rotary Boys Choir and the Saint John Music Festival, and loved to follow the careers of musicians whom she had known as youngsters. She is survived by her nephews, Christopher Colwell of Fredericton, NB and Stephen Colwell of Tracy, NB; one niece, Janice Gibbs of Mississauga, ON, and several grand nephews and nieces. Dorothy was also predeceased by her sister, Jean Tweeddale and brother, Leonard Brown. In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes there will be no formal visitation. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Fernhill Cemetery, with reception to follow. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
