Obituary of Douglas M. Dean

The death of Douglas “Doug” Malcolm Dean of Saint John East, husband of Nelda (Smith) Dean, occurred on Monday, April 2, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on September 11, 1929, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ruby (DeLong) Dean. Doug was a Veteran of the Korean War and served with the Canadian Army for 25 years, retiring as Seargent. He then went on to work as Stores Manager of the Saint John Drydock for 17 years before his retirement. He was a former member of the Jervis Bay Memorial Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Doug loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He will be sadly missed. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by three sons, Wayne Dean, Gregory Dean and Carl Dean, all of Saint John, one sister, Judith Chatterton of Saint John, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several nices and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Thomas, Ralph, Donald and Raymond Dean and one sister, Thelma Cairns. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at 2:15 PM. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Field of Honour. Remembrances to the charity of the donors’ choice would be apprecaited. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a tribute to a Veteran service on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
