Obituary of Almyra May MacLaren

After a beautiful and fulfilling 100 years; with heavy hearts the family of Betty MacLaren, wife of the late Murray MacLaren announce her passing on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Kennebec Manor. She was born on July 11, 1913 in Caribou, ME to the late Alvin and Phoebe (Deveau) Hodsdon. Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of Douglas Avenue Christian Church, the Ladies Auxiliary, Dominion Lodge #18 of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association, Loyalist Temple #13 Phythian Sisters and Happy Gang Seniors Group. Betty was also a most worshipful honourary member of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Canada. She is survived by her daughters: Avis Yeomans (Robert) of Saint John, Frances Smith (Malcolm) of Hyattsville, MD and Lois Goodine of Saint John; sisters: Pauline Dyer, and Ruth Young; chosen daughter, Alberta Clowes and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; parents; sons: Robert, Alvin ‘Jimmy’ and Gerald; brother, Edward; sisters: Helen and Dorothy and grandson, Michael Yeomans Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Ladies Orange Benevolent Association will have a Tribute Service on Friday at 6:45 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Kennebec Manor or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
