Obituary of Coreen E. Ward

"Take Away More Than A Memory" It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Coreen Elizabeth (Merritt) Ward on February 2, 2015 at Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, N.B. on November 14, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Hazel (McEachern) Merritt. She is survived by her son Dan Ward (Cindy) of Saint John, N.B.; two daughters Beverley Boyle (Nick) and Terri Doucette (Eric) both of Fredericton N.B.; her cherished grandchildren Christina Stairs; Michelle Stairs (Cameron Laskey); James Boyle (Tan-Nee Ng) , Isaac Ward and step granddaughter Stephanie Doucette along with her special little great-grandchildren Daxon and Jude Laskey. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Ronald Ward, brothers Robert, Calvin, Otto, Ronald and Larry and sisters Connie Gibbs, Carol Oldfield, Delma Merritt and Ruth Agar. Coreen loved life and her family to the fullest. At age 11 she contracted Black Diphtheria and was the sole survivor of her group of friends who had also contracted the disease. Mom`s life served as a reminder to us all to persevere and be strong when faced with adversity and to know anything is possible with drive and determination. To all who knew her, she leaves a legacy of courage. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. with visitation on Thursday, February 5th from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Friday, February 6th at 2pm. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
