Obituary of Lillian Harris

It is with great sadness the family of the late Lillian (Zatzman) Harris, wife of the late Saul Harris, announce her passing on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Loch Lomond Villa, two weeks shy of her 97th birthday. Born in Saint John on September 17, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Tilly (Shulman) Zatzman. Lillian and her husband made their life and home in Saint John and retired in Toronto in 1986 but returned home to Saint John in 2003. She adored her family, especially her grandsons, who were the light of her life. In her spare time she displayed her talents with needlepoint and hooking rugs. She was also an avid bingo player, and enjoyed playing cards with her family. Lillian loved going on day trips, and to the movies. She was a veteran of WWII. She will be missed by her daughters Deena Harris-Peiser (Tom) of Rothesay and Paula Power (Mike) of Millidgeville; grandsons Jeremy Power of Edmonton and Brent Peiser of Hampton and a sister in law Ruth Zatzman. Lillian was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Sophie (Sandler) Richmond (the late Harry), Miriam Cornell (the late Gordon), Myer Zatzman (the late Ella), Charles Zatzman and Shifra Brym (the late Albert). The family would like to thank the staff of the Loch Lomond Villa for their compassion and care of Lillian during her 7 year stay with them. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm with interment to follow at Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer Society of NB, or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
