Obituary of Joseph Edward White

Joseph Edward White, Joe went home to be with his Lord on September 5, 2014 at Saint John Regional Hospital. From boyhood to his final days, Joseph "Joe" White could be described as a character; playful wit, twinkle in his eye and an easy manner. Joe was born in 1932 in Saint John and grew up in the Winter Street area in the depression years. In 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, Jean Powell, and they spent the next 62 years loving their three children, 8 grandchildren and one great granddaughter, and going through life’s journey together. Joe’s career was dedicated to the Canadian Coast Guard. He was hired as a deck-hand at age 19 and retired in 1995 as full Captain. Upon retirement, Joe took an interest in photography and enjoyed seeing the world through the camera lens – whether his own photos or those his children shared. In later years, Joe’s passion was swapping stories with good friends at the Java Moose in McAllister Place Mall, where he could be found most mornings. For nearly 40 years, Joe joked with his family that he was a "fine specimen of Canadian youth", even as his hair grew silver and his health declined. Family was Joe’s greatest love. Joe White is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean, and their three children, Susan (Shaun), Mark (Janet) and Lynn (David). Joe also leaves behind his sister, Edith Frost (James), and friends too numerous to name. Rest now, Joe. Everything is under control. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 from 3-7 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at 2:00 pm from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, Saint John.
