Obituary of George Leonard Hatheway

The death of George Hatheway of Saint John occurred on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at his home. Born in Saint John on June 7, 1942 and grew up in Martinon, he was the son of the late George Whitfield Hatheway and Evangeline (Martin) (Hatheway) Jennings. George is survived by his son, Sean; special cousins, Moise Martin (Joanne) as well as several other cousins; special family, Betty Flavin, Brian Flavin (Mandy), Bruce Flavin (Dakota), Katherine Flavin-McGraw (Darren), Sheila Flavin-Green, Patsy Flavin (Graham), Lawrence Flavin (Francine), Lorna Flavin-O’Brien (Joe), god daughter, Amanda Flavin and longtime friends, Harry Silver, Reginald Strongman and Mike Currie. Besides his parents, George was also predeceased by his step-father, Harold Jennings, several aunts and uncles and special lifelong friend, James "Bernie" Flavin. George was an Able Seaman in the Royal Canadian Navy, where he was a welder by trade and worked until retirement at the Saint John Dry Dock. Together with his best friend Bernie, George loved to play cards, watch movies and listen to music. He was a soft spoken, kind and caring man who always had a smile on his face. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. God got one of the best when he got George. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service which will be held at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, Manawagonish Road, West Saint John on Friday, October 24, 2014, at 2:00 PM and will be officiated by Rev.
