Obituary of Phyllis Pauline Doherty

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Phyllis (Kate) Pauline Doherty at the Saint John Regional Hospital with family and long- time friends by her side. Phyllis was born September 30, 1917 in Saint John. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Ethel (Wells) Doherty. She was the eldest of nine children and was the last member of her immediate family. Phyllis is survived by her brother in-law John Green, 5 nephews and 4 nieces, great and great- great nieces and nephews and cousins. Phyllis is also survived by all of her friends at Portland United Church and special friends Carolyn and Peter Landry, and Betty Hitchcock. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Glendon, Shirley, Ronald, Betty, Audrey, Harry, Ken, Joan and her niece Angela. Phyllis was involved from a very young age in all activities surrounding Portland United Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Jane Henderson Group, and a volunteer at the North End Community Food Bank. For more than 50 years, one of her most cherished roles was as a CGIT leader. Phyllis was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of God’s love and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing. Those meeting her for the first time, left with a gift. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital 4BN for all of the care and attention that was given to our Aunt the past several months. Also, our sincerest gratitude go to Peter and Carolyn Landry and Betty Hitchcock for their devotion, friendship, care ,compassion and love they have given to Phyllis for many years.
