Obituary of Shirley Marie Whitebone

Shirley Marie (Hatt) Whitebone passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Loch Lomond Village. The daughter of the late Herbert Hatt and Faye (Hatfield- Hatt) Jones, she was born on March 6, 1926 in Middleton, NS. She grew up and remained in Saint John for all of her life. She was the loving wife of the late Russell Whitebone and will be greatly missed by her son, Allan (Debbie) Whitebone and daughter, Holly (Pat) Riley, as well as her grandchildren Kalie (Joe) Paylor and Carly Whitebone (Jason Melanson), and great-grandchildren Rhian and Ella Paylor and Ripley Melanson. She was also a step-grandmother to Angela Riley Quinn, April Riley, Erin Riley Doiron, and Meghan Riley and their children. She was predeceased by her brother Bev Hatt and is survived by her niece Bev (Peter) Wilkins. Shirley worked all of her life until her retirement, employed for many years at NBTel followed by the Telegraph Journal and Psychiatric Consultants, and had volunteered at the Saint John Learning Exchange, NB Museum and the VON Clinic. She was a longtime member of Silver Falls United Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Shirley believed in unconditional love and her kindness and generosity touched the lives of many people over the years. Visitation will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Her funeral will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 1pm. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
