Obituary of Lawrence Miller Bell

It is with great sadness that the family of Lawrence (Larry) Bell announces his passing on March 29th, 2015. Larry died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, Lynn, and family after a period of declining health. He never lost his charm, generosity and ability to live life to the fullest. Larry lived an accomplished life, greatly influencing those around him. Upon graduating from Saint John High School in 1944, he joined his beloved father Thomas Moffett Bell in the investment industry, where he would remain a fixture for sixty-four years. He served as a director for Nesbitt Thomson before retiring from the Bank of Montreal Nesbitt Burns in 2008. Larry proudly served on a number of corporate and non-profit boards, including Eastern Bakeries LTD, the Seafarers Mission of Saint John, and as the Atlantic Director of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada. Larry loved his expansive range of hobbies: rock collecting and prospecting, stamp collecting, art, antiques and history. He was on a lifelong journey to discover new and exciting things. Larry was a tireless supporter and fundraiser for the Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick and he supported his brother, Tom Bell, throughout his long career in federal politics as a Member of Parliament. Larry’s valued advice, ability to enjoy all that life has to offer and tremendous generosity will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He leaves behind his wife, Lynn; three daughters: Sharon (Glenn) Josselyn, Sandra (Brian) McKenney, and Cindy Bell-Estabrooks (Manford Rideout); three grandchildren: Sara Josselyn, Peter Josselyn, and Craig Estabrooks; brothers in law: Donald (Cheryl) Bacon and Hartley (Rhoda) Ellis; sisters in law: Patricia Bell, Clytie Scott (the late Scottie), Leah Gallagher (the late Ron) and Doreen Bowland (the late Ray); and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Thomas Moffett and Edith Bell, wife Patricia "Betty" (Bacon), brothers Thomas and Robert (Florence), and son-in-law Kevin Estabrooks. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 from Trinity Anglican Church, 115 Charlotte Street, Saint John at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, the New Brunswick Extra Mural Program, or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
