Obituary of Walter Melbourne Thompson

On April 22, 2014, in his 91st year, went home to join Joyce, his wife of 50 plus years, the son of William and Georgie (nee Reid) Thompson, Walter was born on August 14, 1923. During his early years Walter worked at many jobs. After coming of age Walter left to join the war effort, servicing oversees for a number of years. After his discharge he caught T.B. which saw him hospitalized for 2 years. Following which he became an orderly at the D.V.A. for the next 30 years, during this time he also joined the Dr. Colin Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion rising to President. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Joyce; his sister, Audrey; brothers, Stanley and Edison. Left to mourn him are his sister Margaret and brother Harry; sisters-in-law, Pat and Joanie; also 3 children, Bill, Judy (Martin) and Wally, 6 grandchildren, Terri, Will, Kelsey, Ben, Etienne and Antoine; 5 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday, April 23 and 24 from 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel, on Friday, April 25 at 2:00 PM. For those who wish, donations made to a charity of their choice would be appreciated by the family.
